Overview of Flood Hazard areas web map

The Flood Hazard web map contains risk areas under the Floods Directive (flood risk area and flood risk-related risk area maps) and maps of coastal flood probability scenarios prepared by the Environment Agency.

Activities to assess and mitigate flood risks began with the adoption of the EU Directive on the assessment and management of flood risks in 2007. Each Member State of the European Union is obliged to assess the risks associated with flood risks, prepare hazard and risk maps and mitigation plans. In accordance with the Directive, the work is planned in three stages: initial flood risk assessment, preparation of flood hazard and flood risk maps and development and implementation of flood risk mitigation plans. After the completion of the risk mitigation plan in 2015, it is planned to update the flood risk risks, maps and mitigation plans every six years, simultaneously with the update of the water management plan.

More detailed information about the maps prepared is available on the flood-related topic page of the Ministry of Climate's website (in estonian).

Using a similar methodology, the Environment Agency prepared maps of flood probability scenarios for the entire coastal area. More detailed information is available on the Environment Portal (in estonian).
